Embracing Change

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.
~ English Proverb

I love the symbolism of the butterfly because, just like the caterpillar, everything changes in life. Many times we don’t even WANT the changes that happen to us but they impact us nonetheless. When bad things happen, we are left to figure out how to manage these difficulties. It is during those time that I like to think of the butterfly.

When I opened my life coaching business, I wanted a philosophy and logo that demonstrated the strength of the human spirit. Even though some may see it as simply an insect, I felt that the butterfly was a perfect choice.

Did you know that if you help a butterfly get out of its cocoon it will never be able to fly?

That’s because the butterfly develops her strength during the struggle to escape her situation. Humans do too, but we SURE don’t feel like it at the time, do we? Most often we feel exhausted, depleated, and sometimes even broken.

My clients tend to be people who have had something bad happen to them (or feel stuck), and are looking for some help and guidance though this difficult time. When faced with their struggles, nearly all of my clients believe that they have run out of good choices and life is just “happening” to them.

It is during these moments that I see an amazing growth opportunity.

It is an opportunity for my clients to MOVE THROUGH the situation they are currently in, with support and guidance, and GROW despite these hardships. I encourage them to draw on their strength and look forward towards their future with the knowledge that they will someday be able to help others. No one has to stay STUCK!

Do you know what I have found that keeps us stuck? FEAR.

Fear has a way of convincing us that we are trapped in a situation and that we will NOT be able to get out.

You know what I’ve learned? Fear lies to us.

Among other situations, fear can keep us stuck in unhappy relationships, in an unfulfilling job, or in an abusive situation. Fear can even keep us stuck in grief or unhappiness. It does this by lying to us.

  • You can’t handle any more right now.
  • You’re not good enough.
  • It could always be worse.
  • You deserve this.

Do any of these sound familiar?

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your life, you have a responsibility to yourself to DO something about it. Take responsibility for your life and work to overcome the FEAR that keeps you stuck. Its not easy but its necessary for your health and happiness.

What are YOU prepared to do?

I know that you are deserving of peace, balance, and happiness and, I promise you, it can be achieved in your lifetime. Do you know how I know this? It is because is already resides WITHIN you! (It’s hiding under the fear)

Moving past fear can be frightening. It is important to create a support system and have a solid plan in place before you begin.

During the tough times, always remember my friend, the butterfly. The difficult days END, and you will become even more evolved and beautiful as you move through your adversity and onto the path of peace and happiness!

Most of my clients come from personal referrals or from reading my blogs. Would you mind sharing?

Twin Cities Life Coaching is passionate about self-care. If we don't take care of ourselves first, how do we expect to care well for others in our lives?

Think of the oxygen mask in an airplane. The instructions given to you before taking flight insist that if there is a change in cabin pressure, we are to put on our own mask BEFORE we assist others with theirs.

Our hectic, over-scheduled, over-worked lives push us to meet everyone else's needs and deadlines before our own. We have it backwards and need to take an airplane oxygen mask approach instead.

Take care of yourself first, and the rest will follow.
